Labor Captive to Green Left - No Northern Food Bowl

The anti-dam anti-progress ALP Government has comissioned a report " that found there was insufficient water to make northern Australia a food bowl for the nation did not consider building dams because it was against Labor policy. The Northern Australia Land and Water Taskforce relied heavily on the work done by the CSIRO's Northern Australia Sustainable Yields project, whose scientists were told not to worry about investigating dams." The CSIRO of course is now hopelessly politicised and it is difficult to get a paper published challenging leftist orhodoxy or Global Warming..
The Rudd Government in consort with Labor state governments has been building power hungry de-salination plants rather than dams to collect water in abundance is many parts of Australia. More cognitive dissonance from an ideology led government. Rudd , of course was part of the Queensland Labor government which scrapped the huge Wolfdene dam condemning South East Queensland to continuing water problems and his government has just blocked a planned Traveston dam for Brisbane.

  1. Baron you have got some facts wrong. Here are so figures about Traveston Dam produced by the Uni of Technology Syd. Traveston Dam - up to 400 000 tonnes/year estimated greenhouse gas emissions; a desal plant at Bribie Island producing same amount of water 210 000 to 280 000 t/year. The issue with dams is not only decomposition of flooded organic matter but also pumping costs as generally they are not placed close to where the water is used. Now costs Traveston Dam $2 574 $M or unit costs $3.38 $/kL; comparable desal $1 987 M and $2.39 $/kL. So a comparable desal to Traveston Dam produces less greenhouse emissions and costs less. The difference between these figures and Gov estimates is that they chose to lie to the public by not include pumping costs in the Dam option but did in the desal option. Lies to convince unwary members of the public that are silly enough to believe the media spin.
