New York Times on the Huge Queensland Coal Deal

From the NYT
Environmental activists are attacking a $60 billion deal that will keep Chinese power stations supplied with Australian coal for at least the next two decades.

The NYT points out the hypocrisy of Rudd calling Global warming the "moral challenge of our generation" and then allowing huge exports of coal for Chinese Power stations. Rudd wants to cut Australia's emissions and at the same time export future emissions overseas as coal. There is no logic here and it is typical of Government attitude to the whole Climate Change fiasco- a kind of  cognitive dissonance (Cognitive dissonance is an uncomfortable feeling caused by holding two contradictory ideas simultaneously.)
The thing is the Rudd Government is not serious about warming or it would simply ban the exports. By not doing it they are either indicating the  problem is not serious or they have no backbone for hard decisions. I think both are true.
