Brothelgate has Labor on the Ropes!

Julia Gillard
The story has more twists and turns than a Le Carre spy story and today's Australian has no less than eight articles on the scandal as the relentless pressure on Labor continues as the details unfold.

Beyond the lurid allegations of use of credits cards for prostitution services and cash advances on overseas trips and many, many tens of thousands of mysteriously missing dollars, comes a far more basic political stench. What the Liberals like to call the NSW Labor "sleaze disease" now reaches directly into the heart of the Gillard prime ministership - courtesy of a Labor backbencher in whom she insists she still has full confidence.
It also reflects the depth and breadth of political misjudgment that threatens the survival of a federal government in seemingly permanent crisis mode. That includes, for example, allowing Thomson to stand again last year for the NSW Central Coast seat of Dobell, despite the swirling allegations about his behaviour and despite the union's referral of possible misappropriation of union funds to Fair Work Australia a year earlier.
And more:
Conflict as mentor in on MP Bailout
PM faces onslaught of sleaze
ALP should dump Gillard
Labor loses Left and Right
Few Winners inside party's dysfunction
PM's Support for MP Unsustainable
The Key Players
Labor Puts lid on revenge plots
An embarrassment of advice

Labor will have to do something but what? Peter Van Onselen suggests dumping Thomson, Gillard going and the new leader putting the carbon tax to a plebiscite which would fail ,removing a huge dead weight from Labor. Labor may then retain at least a respectable number of seats at the next election.

The Thomson Affair with Nicholson.

Nicholson, one of Australia's finest political cartoonists sums it up.

The Great Gillard Giveaway! 650 Billion for a few Pieces of Paper!

The true enormity of the Carbon tax and the cost to this nation is becoming clear in Treasury documents.
Australia will have to pay 650 billion dollars for a few pieces of paper which will then "permit " Australia to go on with our normal lives. If ever a Government deserves to fall it is this one - Whitlam and Khemlani are starting to look like pillars of financial rectitude compared to this lot and Whitlam lost Government over the Khemlani Affair.
Terry McCrann has the incredible story.

Why are We Taxing Coal?

In the last decade the amount of  coal burnt globally has increased 50% and global temperatures have dropped. With such a huge increase in coal causing no change in temperature even the densest of the so-called scientists supporting this scam should re-think! So tell me again ,why are we taxing coal?
P.Gosselin has this most important story:

Mann Cleared of Improper Scientific Behavior but not Bad Science!

In a recent NSF investigation Michael Mann was cleared of improper scientific behavior but not bad science .
Reading all the gleeful comment from the Warmists in the press you would think the " hockey stick" had been verified whereas in reality it has been shredded by Steve McIntyre and others .
From the Closeout Report.
To recommend a finding of research misconduct, the preponderance of the evidence must show that
with culpable intent the Subject committed an act that meets the definition of research misconduct (in
this case, data fabrication or data falsification).
The research in question was originally completed over 10 years ago. Although the Subject's data is
still available and still the focus of significant critical examination, no direct evidence has been
presented that indicates the Subject fabricated the raw data he used for his research or falsified his
results. Much of the current debate focuses on the viability of the statistical procedures he employed,
the statistics used to confirm the accuracy of the results, and the degree to which one specific set of
data impacts the statistical results. These concerns are all appropriate for scientific debate and to
assist the research community in directing future research efforts to improve understanding in this field
of research. Such scientific debate is ongoing but does not, in itself, constitute evidence of research
misconduct.
Lacking any direct evidence of research misconduct, as defined under the NSF Research Misconduct
Regulation, we are closing this investigation with no further action.

As to the validity of Mann's science Professor Richard Muller of Berkely says that in science you cannot do what Mann did.

Gillard falls for the Ultimate Nigerian Scam!

Australians are continually being warned about internet scams originating from Nigeria where foolish people are enticed to send large amounts of cash abroad and end up getting nothing in return. It seems that Julia Gillard has not been reading the warnings and is one of latest gullible ones who is proposing that we send 57 billion of taxpayers money overseas and we get nothing tangible in return other than so-called permission to run our own power stations . Terry McCrann has the story.

They have to be kidding!

Renominated ... Harry Jenkins.Labor's strategists are looking at options if Craig Thomson is ousted from Parliament which is looking more and more likely with each new damning revelation. To keep the Government in power they are considering having the Labor Speaker Harry Jenkins retire to the back bench so that the Liberal Deputy Speaker Peter Slipper will nobly step forward to save the Government and deprive his party of a vital vote. If these backroom boffins think that Abbott will stand for this they are short a few kangaroos in the top paddock.

LABOR strategists are canvassing the prospect of the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Harry Jenkins, being asked to step down and join the backbench should Craig Thomson lose his seat over the credit card fraud allegations.
Although Mr Thomson has not been charged with anything, Labor strategists are thinking of ways to prolong the government should it lose a precious seat.
There is growing anger in the ALP towards Mr Thomson for telling his colleagues before the last election that the allegations about credit card misuse, published by the Herald in 2009, were untrue and that he was suing Fairfax Media. Mr Thomson withdrew that action in April and there is fresh anger from colleagues because he had told people he won the case. ''He looked me in the eye and told me he won,'' a senior MP said yesterday.

It has been widely reported that the ALP made a significant contribution to Mr Thomson's legal costs, although the total amount remains unclear. If it had not, Mr Thomson would be bankrupt and would have had to leave Parliament. His marginal central coast seat of Dobell would most likely have fallen to the Coalition at a byelection.
Polling of the seat by the veteran political pollster John Scales, of JWS research, shows the Coalition leading Labor by 60 per cent to 40 per cent on a two-party-preferred basis. Labor's primary vote in Dobell is mired at 26 per cent.
If Mr Thomson were charged and convicted, he would have to leave and there would be a byelection.
Labor's numbers, with the support of the Greens and independents would be 75 seats, including Mr Jenkins.
The Coalition would have 73, plus there would be Bob Katter and Tony Crook. If Mr Jenkins moved to the backbench, the Deputy Speaker and Liberal MP, Peter Slipper, would become Speaker. This would give the Labor-minority government 75 seats on the floor, the Coalition 72, plus Mr Katter and Mr Crook.

A carbon tax is good for Australia's mental health!

The Conversation is a blog funded by various Universities who obviously have too much money when you look at some of the tripe published.  Perhaps the Coalition's planned razor gang should look at University funds being used for rank political propaganda-an obvious place to save money. The carbon tax is lauded in this psycho-babble article which says that all those deluded people who oppose the tax deep down really want it.

Carbon Tax Machinations an Assault on Democracy!

With the majority of Australian voters opposed to the Carbon Tax , Gillard's Government is moving to thwart moves to remove the tax even when an incoming Government will have a clear mandate from the Australian people to do so. Gillard is even crowing about how difficult and expensive it will be for Abbott to do his job and unwind the tax the Australian people do not want. This is a planned attack on democracy and a cynical attempt to deprive voters of their rights to vote for change and reflects the arrogance of this Government and complete indifference to the  wishes of the electorate. The Greens of course will ignore any mandate given by the people in line with their general Marxist thinking .

Wind Farms will Achieve What Hitler Couldn't!

The ambitious and idiotic plans for 100 billion pound plus wind investments in the UK is the last throw of the dice for an impoverished country - a gamble on technology which will not work . A simpleton Government has been conned by green carpetbaggers selling the latest in environmental snake oil - wind generators. If this huge waste of money (borrowed of course) goes ahead Cameron and his cronies will achieve what Hitler couldn't and bring a once-proud nation to it's knees. Christopher Booker has more:

What is the maddest thing going on in Britain today? There may be many competitors for that title, but a front-runner must be what the Government has made the centrepiece of its energy policy, to ensure that our lights stay on and that our now largely computer-dependent economy remains functioning. Last week, the BBC ran a series of reports by its science correspondent, David Shukman, on the Government’s plan to ring our coasts with vast offshore wind farms.

The Bear Facts!

Despite an unrelenting campaign by greenies and the EPA to paint the polar bear as a casualty of a minute amount of global warming it seems that the bear population is thriving with numbers in one area surveyed increasing from 800 to 2100.

Green Jobs ? What Green Jobs?

Even with the massive subsidies from Government real  "green jobs" remain a mirage and events like the closure of Evergreen Solar are symptomatic of the green industry malaise- a malaise so bad that even the New York Times has recognised it.
 Green Jobs

Amid much hoo-ha the Mayor of San Jose opened the latest "green job" company - it turns out to be an importer of Chinese solar panels . This is a sorry story for the US which was once the world leader in technology and manufacturing.
Along with many other dupes of the green industry scam the Mayor is committed to spending large amounts of other people's money on these parasitic subsidy-sucking industries which don't make economic sense.

Let Them Eat Carbon

Completely lost in all the eco-babble about scrapping coal power and nuclear power and replacing it with "green energy" is the fact that a modern economy is built on cheap power and the changes the green activists want will lower enormously our standard of living.  Low cost power is a multiplier to human effort so a few people can produce large outputs allowing a society where more and more people live off the sweat of fewer and fewer productive workers.

1.5 Billion Consumer Slug from the Rip-Off-Your Neighbour Solar Scheme.

The major energy retailers have warned that an extra 1.5 billion will have to be extracted from the public so the companies can pay over 40 cents per unit for solar power worth 3 cents per unit ,the current wholesale price. It has been said that solar power is obtained by mixing sunlight with large quantities of taxpayer dollars

Convoy a revolt of working people

Gary Johns, minister from a previous Labor Government says that the the true cost of the Carbon Tax is over a trillion dollars and it will cost jobs and lower living standards. The political effect of a convoy of monster trucks driven by real Australians through Canberra will be devastating for Gillard and her motley crew.

Australia's uprising is from workers. Workers, who every day drive trucks and travel in aeroplanes all over Australia to work in mines and on cattle stations and in hundreds of industries that service them.
They may be a little unkempt; they could afford to stand a little closer to a razor blade and a little further away from a tattoo gun, but what they lack in inner-city elegance, they more than make up for in a sense of proportion and reality. They do not like being treated as fools.
The federal Labor government has indeed treated them and millions of others as fools.

All other things considered, the real outcome of the carbon tax will in fact be both job losses and real wage decline. Treasury knows this and the Treasurer knows this, or at least he should.
The petitioners are angry because they have been told that the carbon tax will save the world from climate change, and that the carbon tax will not cost more than they can be compensated for.
According to Newspoll, only 30 per cent of Australians support the government's "plan to put a price on carbon".

Winds Of Change in the US!

The times are a'changing in the US with a triple whammy for the Warmists in recent polls . The first was the announcement that Rick Perry , an avowed climate sceptic was running for the GOP presidential nomination and he immediately shot to a healthy 11% lead over Mitt Romney in the latest poll.
Secondly the GOP has a generic 44% to 37 % lead over the Democrats which would easily give them control of both houses in 2012. And thirdly a generic GOP presidential candidate has a 6% lead over Obama in the Presidential race , all very bad news for Obama and the Democrats.

Graphic Evidence!

Joe Bastardi shows that a picture is worth a thousand words in attacking the "settled science" of Global Warming and showing that CO2 does not correlate well with temperature but the Pacific and Atlantic oscillations do!
It is frustrating that with such obvious inconsistencies the AGW movement still hangs on but it has changed from an evidence based movement to a group with cult-like beliefs in the" IPCC says it,I believe it and that settles it" mold.

How Do The AGW People Get Away With This?
By Joe Bastardi
A few graphics make the position of the AGW people completely absurd. It’s why I am so confident as to my position on this matter, and by the way it does have something to do with the weather because if you know where the weather has been, you have a better chance to know where it’s going.
Exhibit one, from my co-partner here at WeatherBell Joe D’Aleo ( I wonder if we will share the same cell when the warmingistas come to get us. And will they let us have the same tattoo artist to brand us deniers?)
image
PDO and AMO are strongly correlated to the earths temps…now watch CO2 vs temps over the past century:
image
Even more damning than this, look at the past 10 years:
image
image
Which leads to the question: How do these people have any credibility? How do they get away with this?  It’s mind boggling that its gotten to a point where the EPA is dictating policy based on what is an obvious fraud, or if you want to be gentle about it, creates enough doubt to back off.

Silly Automakers!

Obama , with his expertise in every subject has told the US auto industry to stop their focus on SUV's and trucks and concentrate on small cars as they "have to understand the market". The manufacturers of course who   of course don't understand the market at all, will appreciate Obama's insight and immediately cease making SUV's which are selling like hotcakes and concentrate on manufacturing vehicles the customers do not really want like electric cars with a range of 40 miles on a warm day.
The country’s automakers should ditch their focus on SUVs and trucks in favor of smaller, more fuel-efficient vehicles, President Obama said Monday.

“You can’t just make money on SUVs and trucks,” Obama said during a town hall forum in Cannon Falls, Minn. “There is a place for SUVs and trucks, but as gas prices keep on going up, you have got to understand the market. People are going to try to save money.”

Gillard's Green Job Future - the US Experience!

With major US companies unable to prevent migration of solar panel jobs to China Gillard's assertion that we will create all these magical "green jobs" here where high tech US companies have failed is bunkum!
The Gillard Green Energy 10 billion slush fund will create jobs alright ; but in China , not here. China exports 95% of it's solar panel output and if Labor thinks we will compete with our over-regulated and over-taxed high cost labor force they are in cloud-cuckoo land. Most of the slush fund will disappear overseas after lining the pockets of the local wind and solar agents with their fat commissions. Some examples of the US experience are below.

Carbon Lie Birthday!

Julia Gillard made the famous "no carbon tax" lie exactly 1 year ago today and the anniversary will be certainly be remembered in Federal Parliament although I'm not sure there will be champagne on the Labor side of the house.

Labor Desperate over Prostitute Claims!

If Federal Labor MP Craig Thomson loses his seat over claims that his union card was used for prostitute services the Gillard government will lose their majority at the resultant by-election.
Thomson is the bloke who was accused of paying for the services of prostitutes on his union credit card, not for himself but his mates, including a payment of $2475 to an escort agency in 2005. That amount was billed back to the Health Services Union, effectively funded through the union dues of low-paid hospital orderlies. Thomson initially took legal action against Fairfax for publishing the story. He subsequently abandoned the case, and admitted on radio that he had authorised the payment, albeit with the caveat that he wasn't aware that it was being made to an escort agency.Credible figures in the ALP have privately and publicly rebuked Thomson for his conduct, including minister Tanya Plibersek.
The fragile nature of the Gillard majority  explains why Labor funds were used for Thomson's legal services .

THE Labor Party spent more than $40,000 in legal fees to bail controversial federal MP Craig Thomson out of strife after he sued over claims his former union credit card was used to hire prostitutes.Mr Thomson dropped his defamation action against Fairfax over the claims in June.Prime Minister Julia Gillard needs him to stay in parliament to keep her majority. NSW Labor paid most of his legal bill. Sussex St confirmed yesterday NSW Labor headquarters paid "some" of his legal bills, which included settling some of Fairfax's costs.A senior Labor source confirmed the payment and said: "It's not uncommon for political parties to help members with legal bills from time to time.
Thomson is expected to come under heavy fire in Parliament this week with Gillard in the un-enviable position of being forced to defend him!

No comments please!

The ACF and ACTU combine their Intellects to Produce a Plan!

I don't think you would expect anything different from such an unholy alliance and the absolute tripe they have produced will not disappoint. The Computer models they are using must have been borrowed from the Global Warming crowd  to produce such wild predictions. They are going to produce 770,000 more jobs by 2030 in this Alice in Wonderland scenario using technologies that have not and are not working economically anywhere. Living standards are definitely going to be higher after we  give up air conditioning, pay a fortune for  electric cars running on torch cells, cope with skyrocketing electricity costs and higher taxation to pay for all the "green job drones" the government will have to employ. Of course bucket-loads of taxpayers funds would be needed because no one in their right mind would use such costly and unreliable technologies without subsidization.
Bio-fuels also get a Guernsey in this fantasy even though they are now being viewed negatively because of  their effects on world food prices and the fact that  they don't really reduce emissions anyway.
Already, China and California are staking their claim on the global
solar industry, Asia is rapidly becoming a leader in affordable electric
vehicle manufacture and Europe leads the globe in wind generation
technologies, staking their claim in what is shaping up to be a US$2.3
trillion clean energy industry by 2020.1
The idea that Australia will compete with China in mass produced technology is absurd as can be seen by the  way China has destroyed solar panel competitors in Germany and the US!
The kicker for me is that this magnificent plan will save us 240 billion dollars in International Carbon Permits by 2030 using the Strong Action Plan . You will only save this if you were idiot enough to pay it in the first place.
I think the Australian public has a Strong Action plan of their own which will be implemented next election to rid this country of the twits who support this nonsense.

Power Station Engineer with Full Head of Steam!

A letter to the editor in a Rockhampton Newspaper from a retired power station professional was written to rebut the global warming propaganda about carbon dioxide emissions from power stations. Having started my career in power systems engineering I agree wholeheartedly with his views and it is refreshing to hear the practical opinions of someone who  knows what he is talking about and not that of some boffin at a computer trying to make the real world fit his own ideological view.

US Debt Crisis for Dummies.

While my financial expertise is limited to that required to run a manufacturing business this simplified   analysis of the US debt seems reasonable to me ,if somewhat scary. I guess at some time a country must  pay it's bills but I'm not looking forward to the time the debt collectors arrive at the door of the White House. If this was a business, shareholders ( or the receiver) would immediately remove the existing incompetent management and replace them with capable people to get the budget back into the black and put the nation back to work.

No better time for a carbon tax - Gillard

Julia Gillard
Julia Gillard, in her own fairy-tale world at a town hall meeting in WA said there is no better time for a carbon tax!  When , may I ask, would there be a worse time? Only the simpleminded would think that the imminent global recession won't affect Australia and if China can not sell her goods she will not buy ours and Australia is in deep do-do.
Are these politicians living on a different planet where GFC 2 is not happening?

Europe- A Failed Experiment!

The collapse of the EU system seems imminent following cracks appearing in the financial and social order created by the super-state. At the top we have the European Parliament which has enormous power without real electoral responsibility and at the bottom we have an under-class who have "entitlements and income" without societal responsibility to contribute. Whether it will be possible to excise the sickest economies from the Eurozone remains to be seen but it will probably be necessary and many of those sovereign powers usurped by the EU need to be returned to the member states.

It is the Absolute Right of the State to Supervise the Formation of Public Opinion

As I received my little  package on the Carbon Tax in the mail I thought of the words of Josef Goebbels above justifying his use of propaganda to further his Government agenda. In the same way it was disquieting to read of a survey by the CSIRO proud of the fact that that little children are now carrying the message home of what they have "learnt" at school to their "ignorant" parents. Children are not just being taught the 3 R's at school and while we can forbid religious indoctrination for our children we can't stop  other messages buried in the school syllabus which we would rather were not taught. They will grow up with the twisted idea that the large companies and power generators that are the backbone of our  country and provide our standard of living are somehow evil monsters as they pollute our atmosphere with CO2.

The Face of the Future?

For I dipt into the future, far as human eye could see,
Saw the Vision of the world, and all the wonder that would be;
Tennyson
Today's wonder is FlexBlue , a concept based on nuclear submarine technology where a small self-contained power plant of 50 to 250 MW could be shipped to the required site and placed on the ocean bed and cabled to shore . Because of the amount of water available reactor meltdown could not happen. Distributed power systems like this make sense as transmission expense is  a large part of  modern electricity system costs , which will be minimised by placing the generator near the load.

The Greenies will go beserk if this comes to fruition!

Neither Clean nor Green!

Wind power is under attack in Colorado where concerned groups are taking the Government to court over the issue. It is a pity more of this scrutiny  does not happen before we create more wind power graveyards for the future! When I started out in engineering I worked as a system planner for the local Electricity Authority and was involved in planning power station siting for 15 to 20 years in the future with each possible plan subjected to rigorous costing and load flow analysis of a sort that no wind or solar project would pass. I never see any analysis for wind other than the lie that the new wind installation will power 30,000 homes or some such , when in reality it will not power even one because wind power is not dispatchable!

Ideology Driving installation of Unworkable Technology!

Between the idea
And the reality
Between the motion
And the act
Falls the Shadow

TS Eliot

Alice would be quite at home in the Wonderland of green-inspired technology costing untold billions; technology that unfortunately doesn't really work and no amount of beating an ideological drum will change the end result. The electric car is a technological marvel , computerised to the wheel-nuts and representing the pinnacle of current automotive engineering and is touted as the answer to our personal transportation problems. The shadow between a great idea and an imperfect reality is the lack a proper battery and this beautiful piece of engineering is leaving the factory powered by a huge bunch of  lithium cells , more at home in an Ipod, and which give very limited range, together with temperature and aging problems . The car is so expensive that it  is priced out of the market even with the subsidies provided by silly Governments. The new Nissan Leaf is a good example where recently the price of a replacement battery has been estimated at $32,000, about the same as the cost of the subsidised car. The website for the Leaf tells you nothing about the battery's poor performance  and Nissan does not publish temperature performance degradation or life characteristics. but these silly details don't matter as long as the car is "green". Electric cars should NEVER have been mass-produced until a suitable battery technology was designed - we now have a very good cart but no horse!

Must Read - Carbon Tax in Global Context

With Labor polling a dismal 29% ,the world economy in ruins and even with senior Labor people like the Leader of the NSW opposition refusing to support the carbon tax Gillard is still "moving forward' with this bizarre impost on the Australian nation.
Although the Gillard Government insists that they are proceeding in concert with the  rest of the world the reality is far different ,as described in an  excellent WUWT article by Ed Hoskins which is reproduced in full here.

Julia Slips Further !

The new Essential Media Poll has Labor on 43% to the Coalition's 57% two party preferred - down 1% on the previous week. Labor's primary support is now only 30% and will not be helped by the much-vaunted Malaysian solution for boat-people being scuppered by the High Court. Even Kevin Rudd who was sacked for similar poll numbers out-rates Gillard 37% to 12% as preferred PM.

A Cool Look at Global Warming!

A very useful explanation of Global Warming for the layman which you can send to your friends who think the world is going to be destroyed by the warm/cold and drought/flood caused by a minuscule amount of CO2!

Barnaby has the Last Laugh!

In 2009 when Barnaby Joyce warned of the problems with potential US debt default he was ridiculed by Treasurer Wayne Swan and his Labor party cohorts as an economic hillbilly. In the following two years the out-spoken  Barnaby has been shown to be right and Swan's economic performance has been such that you would not put him in charge of the till at a school fete. Joyce says that the Treasurer should be concentrating on debt rather than the non-problem of Climate Change.

Appalling - More Billions Down the Gillard Gurgler!

A cabinet report which the Government has not surprisingly attempted to keep secret has finally been released after court action .
The damning document says that 3.5 billion dollars which has been spent annually on the aboriginal industry has provided very little or negative return. For the numerically challenged Labor pollies that is 14  billion dollars over the last 4 Labor years , making it the most wasteful Labor program ever, and there were some hard ones to beat like the multi-billion tax dollar black holes of the Pink Batts fiasco and the school building rort together with the billions being wasted on impractical "green energy" schemes across the country, making this the most wasteful government in living memory!

Just the Time for Two Huge New Taxes!

With the current share market collapse we see that Labor's impeccable timing has not deserted them with the impost of the Carbon and Mining taxes hanging like a spectre over the economy just at the time when consumer confidence is needed. Confidence was weak even before the introduction of the Carbon tax details . Gillard is now so wedded to this silly tax that there is no going back as long as she is at the helm pretending to be some tearful (but steely-eyed) re-incarnation of Margaret Thatcher . The economy cannot rebound significantly while consumers and the business community view their Government as completely incompetent while much of their disposable cash is disappearing on sky-rocketing power and water prices.
A GROUP of business leaders has attacked the Gillard government as intrusive, short-sighted, heavy-handed and difficult to deal with.
Leading the sustained attack at a business lunch in Melbourne yesterday was Westpac and BHP Billiton director Lindsay Maxsted, who said he could not recall a time in his decades of experience when relations between Canberra and the business community were more strained.
A more intelligent and caring Government would scrap both taxes indefinitely !

US Climate Science Credibility Problem Undermines Carbon Tax Model

The latest Rassmussen report on US attitudes to Global Warming says that 69% are inclined to believe that climate data has been fudged, which means that the chances of the US doing anything remotely like our idiotic carbon tax in the near future is zero. Global warming among Obama and other likely US Presidential candidates is now the policy-that-can-not-be-named and those  like Gingrich who have actually named it are claiming it is all some sort of a misunderstanding and it wasn't really him sitting next to Nancy Pelosi.
The Australian Treasury's modelling for the carbon tax assumes that the biggest emitters of US along with China and India will get on board with the carbon dioxide scam , an assumption that anyone with a higher IQ than a houseplant can see isn't going to happen.

BBC Science Reviewer on Flat-Earthers

Steve Jones, in a review of BBC Science coverage recommended in effect that sceptics be given even less time (if that were possible) on the BBC which provoked a hail of criticism. Jones in an article in the Telegraph defends himself and attacked sceptics by saying that science upsets "flat-earthers". The comments on his article are mostly not complimentary! An analogy he didn't offer was that of Galileo's science which upset the planets-rotate-around-the-earthers consensus. Of course with climate "flat-earthers" including scientific luminaries like Richard Lindzen and Freeman Dyson this particular sceptic accepts the ad hominem with some pride.
However when "settled science" computer models say  there is a causational link between carbon dioxide levels and temperature and the real world looks like the C3 graph below you have to ask who are the real "flat-earthers".

The Mad March of Political Correctness

Janet Albrechtsen has a fine article on how ridiculous political correctness has become and how it is stifling debate on important issues on the basis on not "offending" anyone.

MARK Twain knew a thing or two about political correctness when he said: "Sometimes I wonder whether the world is run by smart people who are putting us on or by imbeciles who really mean it."
It's tempting to think of the PC crowd as just a bunch of busybodies who are having us on. Early episodes of Sesame Street carry adults-only warnings. Enid Blyton has been cleared of all golliwogs. And last year a Seattle school renamed Easter eggs "spring spheres" so as not to offend children by alluding to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Political correctness seems to march to an imbecilic beat.

And she concludes:
The principles are clear enough: free speech is not a Left-Right thing as Mark Steyn said. It's a free-unfree thing. You don't get to cry in favour of free speech just to defend those with whom you agree. And free speech must include the right to offend. If we prosecute offensive opinions, we just encourage ever more ridiculous claims to protection. We fuel that marketplace of outrage. And we end up shutting down the true genius of modern Western civilisation: the contest of ideas.

Another Green Slug for Homeowners

The new taxes keep coming with a compulsory "green rating" scheme planned for dwellings before they are sold or leased. Energy audits would cost up to $820.00 under the scheme. This nanny state mentality assumes that a buyer will not check his property before purchase and needs the government to do it for him. Of course a new army of green auditors will be required for the scheme ,part of the ever-increasing parasitic green bureaucracy blighting this country of ours.
