Bloggers to be controlled by new Ministry of Truth

Suitable Headquarters for New Media control body.
The Communications minister Stephen Conroy has released proposals for a Government-funded body to regulate media in Australia including newsprint, radio, TV and internet sites reaching down to the smallest blogs including this one. A blog will be included if it passes a threshold of 15,000 hits a year which will include all the climate realist blogs I know. The political bent of the committee preparing the report can be seen in it's view that the ABC  with it's gaggle of left-wing journalists is unbiased. The report says the new body will be independent and arms-length from the government which funds it. This will obviously work in the same manner as the "independent" Fair Work Australia which is stuffed full of appointed union heavies and fellow travellers , and sits in judgement over unions and employers.

Our liberty depends on the freedom of the press, and that cannot be limited without being lost.

  1. Surely people will not be apathetic enough to just standby and let this happen.

Should the singularly unpopular Gillard government manage to force it through, surely the new government (now inevitable) will repeal the legislation.

    1. eeerrr, Teejay. Something to ponder...

Surely the government wouldn't regulate free speech and free and open inquiry and debate?

Yes and Yes to both. That's how we got here!

Not long now. Freedoms are being attacked on so many fronts I can't how it can pushed. freedom just does not have the troops to be able to deal with being attacked from Europe, USA and now here.

The problem is not what is happening either. It's when the pendulum swings back. It may swing back with some serious momentum which will be dangerous as well.

  2. Our world increasingly sounds like a Harry Potter series. Or C.S. Lewis's Space Trilogy. Or Orwell. Yikes. Orwell.

The Ministry of Truth means OUR version of the truth.

Because that's all you need to know.

    Dear God, Aussies too?

    1. • “Day by day and almost minute by minute the past was brought up to date. In this way every prediction made by the Party could be shown by documentary evidence to have been correct; nor was any item of news, or any expression of opinion, which conflicted with the needs of the moment, ever allowed to remain on record. All history was a palimpsest, scraped clean and reinscribed exactly as often as was necessary.” George Orwell

  3. What the hell is going on in Australia?......1984 was a book, not a blueprint for idiotic politicians who think they are to be "served" instead of being "SERVANT's of the PEOPLE"! Who do these little Hitler's think they are? Wee little men who are so insane that they think people have to be controlled from morning to night should all be forced to have a mental health evaluation before they can carry office and make any decisions on behalf of the electorate who pay their wages!!!!
Good luck with this idea.........millions of bloggers are waiting for an idiot like this!.....myself included!!!!.....bring it on!

    1. This has nothing to do with Hitler or the extreme right.

It has everything to do with the Collective. The push back will come from the extreme right though.

    2. I do not agree with the characterisation of this issue as left Vs Right. Communism and Fascism are both collective doctrines. Fascism is also called National Socialism, they are both left wing doctrines. The only genuine anti-Fascist/communist doctrine is laissez-faire capitalism.

  5. I think all the real Aussies must be out enjoying life leaving an open door for the serious left to take charge.

Give up some of that fun guys. Maintaining freedom is a never-ending fight !

  7. Thanks for that - I wondered what the building was. I just thought the architecture was appropriate'

  8. I never thought I'd ever see a day when Australia would even think of such a dangerous policy, let alone propose it. This is typical of the Gillard Labor government that is determined to control our freedoms and our ability to challenge its propaganda on everything... from catastrophic man-made global warming to political criticism generally. This is not the Australian way.

    1. I live in Thailand and have a US passport. I enjoy, most of the time, watching Australian Broadcast Co. and Jim Middleton's news show. Last week I watched a four corners show that ended up getting my blood boiling over how the presenter was trying to degrade Australia for the detention centers to hold the Muslim boat people that come to Australia seeking asylum. What amazes me, first off, is why these Islamic people go through all of the Islamic countries they do coming from Iran, Afghanistan and middle eastern countries to get to a nation that is decidedly, at least not yet, Muslim. Then to have this left leaning presenter make out like AUS. Has no right to determine who enters their country is absurd, some what like what is happening in the US. Recall the three American hikers that were detained in Iran and finally ransomed out and also how the idiot Al Gore had to redeem 2 women who worked for him from N. Korea.

You folks seem to have far more than just this economy breaking caarbon tax, as Gillard calls it, to worry about. How you or any society can allow these green types to have so much power is beyond me but it will all change when the earth begins to freeze over, as it has done before, and that seems to be the norm for its climate, cold.

  9. Steven ConMan is already intent on censoring ("filtering") the internet and this is just more of the same from these narcissistic lunatics.

  10. "Dear God - Aussies too?"

Unfortunately our (here in the UK) perception of Aussies as fair-minded, no-nonsense types is a little out of date. Whilst the average Aussie does fit that description, it's also infested with Green and left-leaning loonies. Give anyone a nice wage for doing sod all, plenty of time on their hands with not much to do with it, a little knowledge, and you have the mould for the perfect Green Climate nut. Australia’s (relatively) untouched by the financial crisis economy is the perfect breeding ground for them.

I was in Brisbane six months ago and the average Aussie is screaming in protest at Gillard's darling 'carbon tax.' But any dissent is drowned out by the greenies.

Try and reason with them and they'll throw distorted graph after manipulated statistics at you by the wagonload. When you finally ridicule them and show them just how plain daft their arguments are - and that every single one of their cataclysmic predictions has failed to materialise - they'll shout you down - as all lefties do.

I was trying to redress the balance recently on 'Answers.com' (a Wiki site that has been completely taken over by leftist green loonies) and after questioning repeatedly the wisdom of theories being presented as fact, was blocked by one of their 'supervisors' - a 'WikiGreen' member who's scientific qualifications are described in his profile as 'music teacher.' A quick look at the map of the green leaning supervisors and contributors showed a disproportionate percentage of the nutters down under. Whilst the rest of the world has the financial crisis to deal with, as the saying goes: "The Devil finds work for idle hands."

  11. The people should not fear the government. The government should fear the people. Look to the states. Remember what Yamamoto said about invading the US. "We would find a rifle behind every blade of grass." Obama was rightly seen by millions of Americans as a threat and it is shown in gun sales since he took office. Look to the Muslims. In America you can spit on Christians all you want, but don't look sideways at a Muslim. Why? The threat of violence. I am not advocating violence, I'm saying it's about time those in the West start projecting the ability and willingness to resort to it. Your freedom will be slowly nibbled away without it.

  13. Why should the media's ability to tell the truth matter when they continually lie to us about illegal immigrants, global warming, climate change etc. They must start telling the TRUTH and stop pushing PROPAGANDA.If they are not honest with us they will not get any support on this issue. It is time for them to EARN some CREDIBILITY.

  14. Isn't it curious that Larry Pickering's website at http://pickeringpost.com/ (which has been running his "Is The Prime Minister A Crook?" series) was first subjected to a couple of days of DDoS attack and now it's showing "Account Suspended"? Also interesting that none of the mainstream media is reporting any of this?

And you thought that Conroy's Ministry Of Truth was just an idea. Australia under Labor's becoming more like North Korea by the day.
